Description
The STIHL MS 500i petrol chainsaw is ideal for forestry work. Above all, it lets you process thick wood efficiently based on this tool’s high performance and ease of use. Thanks to lightweight design and dynamic swivel behaviour, this highly manoeuvrable chainsaw impresses not only when felling and cutting to length, but also when pruning.
The MS 500i is the world’s first chainsaw to feature electronically controlled injection. The innovative STIHL Injection technology guarantees optimum engine performance and excellent starting characteristics, regardless of altitude and ambient temperature. Sensors measure air pressure and internal and external temperature, and pass information on to the control unit. This can use the identified values to determine the optimum fuel quantity and ignition timing. As a result, fuel metering is assured through the opening and closing of the valve. STIHL Injection is therefore synonymous with rapid acceleration, extremely high power, and low weight.
Chain accelerates from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 0.25 seconds.
Best power-to-weight ratio on the market: an unparalleled 1.24 kg/kW.
Electronically controlled fuel injection takes place in the tried-and-tested STIHL 2-MIX engine, which offers high performance with low fuel consumption. The petrol chainsaw features STIHL ElastoStart to protect your muscles and joints. Its HD2 air filter, captive nuts on the sprocket cover, controlled-delivery oil pump, tool-free fuel cap and side-mounted chain tensioning complete the premium features.
Features:
- Unmatched Acceleration
Chain accelerates from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 0.25 seconds. - Best Power-to-Weight Ratio on the market
An unparalleled 1.24 kg/kW. - Side Mounted Chain Tensioning
Side-mounted chain tensioning allows for protected, easy and quick chain tensioning and replacement. The tensioning screw is inserted laterally through the sprocket cover. - STIHL Injection
The electronic fuel injection control unit continuously calculates the correct fuel supply and the ideal ignition time, and injection is performed directly into the crankcase via the injection valve. Additionally, sensors measure air pressure and internal and external temperature, and pass information on to the control unit. This can use the identified values to determine the optimum fuel quantity and ignition timing. This means that your power tool offers more power from a similar weight and installation space compared to engines without injection. - Sensor-Based Fuel Measurement
During work, your chainsaw uses a pressure and temperature sensor on the engine to measure the fuel. The control unit processes the values measured by the sensor so that the system adapts to the operating conditions. The optimised measurement of the fuel also achieves the best possible running behaviour. - Simplified Start
Thanks to electronic fuel injection, your chainsaw does not need a start position. In addition, the manual fuel pump is easily accessible, making the start-up process even easier. - HD2 Filter
The HD2 filter protects your power tool’s engine against even the finest dust, ensuring a longer service life and reduced wear. The filter made from PET material has up to 70% finer pores than fleece and polyamide filters, and is also oil- and water-repellent. This also makes it easier to clean the filter. When needed, the filter cartridge can be easily replaced without tools. - Tool-Free Fuel & Oil Cap
With tool-free fuel cap, you can open and close oil and fuel tanks in just a few simple steps, thanks to a bayonet closure. - STIHL Ematic System
The STIHL Ematic system comprises a STIHL Ematic or Ematic S guide bar, a STIHL Oilomatic saw chain and a controlled-delivery oil pump. It ensures that the chain oil gets to where it is needed for lubrication. This allows you to reduce oil consumption by up to 50%. If you often work in dusty conditions or if you use long guide bars, you can quickly and easily increase the oil quantity at any time with the new oil pump system. - Captive Nuts
The nuts are attached to the sprocket cover in a captive manner. This makes it impossible for the nuts to fall off and get lost when the cover is removed. - Plunge Guide
The plunge guide makes it easier to check the cutting direction during plunge cutting. It is mounted on the fan housing and runs parallel to the symmetry line of the guide bar. - Optimised Bumper Spikes
The rounded arrangement of the bumper spike teeth matches the radial contours of trees. This means that your chainsaw will bite even better into the wood when cutting to length and felling. - Manual Decompression
The decompression valve makes it easier to start your power tool. When starting, you can allow some of the compressed mixture to escape from the cylinder by opening the valve. This protects the start-up system and reduces the amount of force required on the starter cord. - STIHL 2-Mix Engine
The STIHL 2-MIX engine is both powerful and economical. Separating the exhaust emissions from the unburnt gas minimises scavenging losses, and therefore increases the power output while reducing consumption. The two-stroke engine with STIHL 2-MIX technology saves up to 20% of fuel and reduces emissions by up to 70% compared to STIHL 2-stroke engines of the same performance class without 2-MIX technology. - Anti-Vibration System
Intense vibration at the handles of power tools can lead to longer-term effects of blood vessels in the hands and arms. STIHL have therefore developed an effective anti-vibration system where by the oscillations from the machines engine are dampened which significantly reduces vibrations at the handles.
