These DeWalt batteries offered the best bang for my buck in terms of $/Wh when I bought them for $289 each. However at current prices ($339 as of August 2023), the DeWalt’s 9Ah battery, at $239, offers the best bang for your buck in $/Wh ($1.48/Wh vs $1.57/Wh for the 12Ah battery). I also note that these DeWalt 12Ah batteries are also more expensive (in $/Wh) than some competitors' batteries (e.g. Stihl, Greenworks). They seem like a reasonable quality, robust and reliable battery. However, I have had a few failures within the warranty period, bringing their durability into question. I’ve owned six of these batteries for the past 1-3 years. I haven’t used them all that much - I’m not a tradesperson but a DIY hobbyist. I’ve mostly used mine on my DCM575 and DCMCS575 chainsaws. And yet I’ve had two fail, in that their capacity greatly reduced. I then had to return them to be replaced under warranty. And in my experience, it takes at least a few months for a DeWalt item I’ve returned under warranty to be repaired/replaced and returned to me. My only other complaint, besides the price and durability, is that when running a high-powered tool under load continuously, such as the DCMCS575 chainsaw, the batteries shut themselves down within a few minutes despite having plenty of capacity remaining (as in, two of the three battery charge indicator LED’s still light up). This is presumably to protect the cells which have heated up too much. I guess this is better than the cells being damaged though. And I guess it’s also an issue with competitors' batteries as well, and is simply reflective of the current (year 2023) limitation of lithium-ion tool batteries. However, I have not yet compared similar sized competitors’ batteries in similar tools so I can’t say for definitively.
